Meet Alice, one of our first and members joining the Newly Qualified Nurses community of practice

Created by Maaike one year ago

Alice, Registered Nurse, has kindly agreed to share her thoughts on the programme. Alice wrote this for us in July 2022:

Over the course of 10 months, St Christopher’s Care has provided a virtual shared learning experience which has proven to be invaluable to my nursing career and new role in palliative care.  I qualified in 2020 and began my new role as a community palliative nurse at The Shakespeare Hospice in October 2021.

The Newly Qualified Nurses’ Community of Practice sessions have given me a wonderful opportunity to not only enhance my knowledge on end of life care, but to also challenge my practice and provide a safe space to share experiences with fellow new nurses.
The topics we have discussed so far, such as advance care planning, delirium, holistic care and communication techniques have helped me better understand my role as a nurse providing palliative and end of life care, overall the sessions have increased my confidence and enhanced my practice.

The continuity and support I have received from Pippa, Maaike, guest speakers and all staff involved has been incredibly helpful and they have made the sessions accessible and convenient.  I look forward to my continued engagement with this Community of Practice.
