My sister Sian

Its nine months since my beloved sister Sian died and I miss her very much. Sian was a not just my sister but also a dear friend.  We shared nearly 70 years of memories and had many interests in common. Both Sian and I were interested in our Welsh heritage and enjoyed going to lectures on Welsh history and culture through our membership of the Honourable Society of Cymmrodorion. We also shared our love of Norfolk and enjoyed staying there where Sian was an excellent and enthusiastic birdwatcher.

All Sian’s friends will know of her wide range of interests from gardening to opera to travel and politics. I am delighted that she shared her knowledge so generously and we all benefited.  She was an interested and enthusiastic traveller and I have wonderful and precious memories of the last major holiday we took together with Tyrrell to Iran when she was already ill. No one would have guessed what she was facing as she showed unbounding energy for the history and culture of that fascinating and beautiful country.

She was also someone who cared very much for the happiness and wellbeing of her family and friends and actively counselled and advised them. Many of us have experienced that support and emotional wisdom. And I am sure that her words often echo in our heads as we live on without her.

Finally, Sian was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother and gave so much to her two wonderful grandchildren, Clement and Romola. It was very hard for her to contemplate leaving them. All we can do is love them for her as well as for themselves.

Dearest Sian, losing you has been  very painful- thank you for all you did to help me and love me over these many years.
