Maaike Vandeweghe, Senior Educationalist at St Christopher's CARE 8th December 2022

Hi all, my name is Maaike and I work at St Christopher's CARE. I lead on our programmes of learning and I am often referred to as the architect of all our different education offers regionally, nationally but also internationally. I have had the opportunity to work closely with Tyrrell on the development and delivery of the community of practice for newly (or recently) qualified nurses across the UK. This has been an incredible success and has enabled us to invest in a learning platform and additional learning technology to support the community with their ongoing development needs. At St Christopher's CARE, our approach to learning very much focusses on the importance of considering the learners' prior experiences, knowledge and skills and therefore it is absolutely vital as educationalists to adopt an approach to learning which is all about co-designing, co-developing and where possible even co-delivering of learning, stories and experiences. We have long moved away from the very didactic approach to learning and transformational learning with lasting impact on learners' views and practice is our ultimate aim. We are so excited to be able to continue to grow the community and welcome more nurses to this fantastically supportive and engaging environment. Thanks to all of you, the steering group and of course Tyrrell and Isabel for your support and enabling us to make this happen. A few of the newly qualified nurses have shared their story with us through a blog which I will add to the site as well. If you would like to get in touch with us please let Tyrrell know and I will be happy to welcome you at CARE or to speak to you on the phone or via email. Thanks again for everything you do to improve the future of nursing in palliative and end of life care. Warmest wishes, Maaike (7 December 2022)
